The drive to Utah

We drove to Utah with Grandma and Grandpa Darrington. The first night we drove to Sioux Falls, South Dakota (Grandpa was meeting with a sister he baptized 40 years earlier). We stayed at a hotel with a water park and the girls had a blast. I think the entire family had a great time. Unfortunately, no pictures.

The next day we headed to Gillette, Wyoming where Marcus grew up. We stopped in Rapid City, South Dakota to stretch our legs and visited this Dinosaur park.

In Gillette we stayed with one of Marcus' buddies Joe Zabel and his wife Heather and their family. They were great hosts and it was fun to listen to stories and memories from the past. Again (and with great regret), no pictures.

The next day we headed for Utah. Grandma and Grandpa Darrington stopped at Martin's Cove to try and catch up with some friends from Gillette that were finishing up a handcart trek while we pushed on to meet up with Uncle Levi, Aunt Christy and Marlie.

Levi and Christy were in the process of moving to Indiana for grad school and our paths crossed in Wamsutter, Wyoming. Wamsutter is probably the armpit of Wyoming but we were sure thankful for the tiny park that allowed our kids to enjoy a break from the van. It was great visiting with Levi and his beautiful family. Marlie is a doll and is super talented with her bum scoot. It is always fun to hang out with them.

That is it for the drive out. We were so happy to spot the Wasatch Mountains and drive to Grandma and Grandpa Jackson's house (which felt as good as home) where the kiddie pool was filled and waiting for the grand kids.

Funny! We were stuck in Wamsutter for a night with my parents and hung out at that very park for hours. I called it the armpit of america too!!! Must be true.
