We had tried to plan a trip to Duluth a couple of times but could never get it to work out. Ideally we would have liked to make it up during the summer/fall but it just didn't happen. We decided to go the week after Christmas for a quick trip before we moved. It just happened to be the Bentlyville Lights Festival.
Not my favorite picture but it was fun to roast marshmallows. They also had popcorn and cookie shacks.
It was a fun activity. Probably not something we would repeat. Once is good. We did stay at an awesome hotel on Lake Superior. We were right by the lift bridge and the hotel had an outdoor heated swimming pool on the roof of the hotel. It was great. The swimming that night was probably the best part of the entire trip. It was really cool to see the bridge and eat breakfast lakeside. Absolutely gorgeous. We were in hopes of visiting a ship museum but they changed their hours and were not open the entire time we were in town. We visited a Children's Museum/Train museum instead. We also ate at the famous Grandma's restaurant. It was very good.
Probably not the same experience as camping in the fall but at least we made it up.
