We started our trip out west on Friday afternoon and made it by Saturday evening around 7:30. The moment we arrived it was go go go. Saturday night we almost immediately went to a neighborhood block party to celebrate the 4th. Then we watched the "Stadium of Fire" fireworks from the streets. We couldn't last till the end. The whole family was beat from a long day of travel and immediate play afterwards. I think the kids went to bed around 11pm MST making it midnight for their clocks.
Sunday we had 9am church and then visiting and hanging out with friends. We hung out on the parade route for awhile also. Monday morning the kids and I were at the parade route by 6:30 and Marcus, my dad and Aunt Lindsey were at the 5k race. We were able to cheer them on and just be a part of the parade fun. It is always fun to see friends and family. I think the pre-parade is almost better than the parade itself. Marcus and Lindsey were both hoping to keep up with my Dad for the 5k. Lindsey managed to beat him (barely) by staying with him and then sprinting at the end. In the end my Dad, 58, ran in 26:30. The last time he ran was August last year. Marcus finished around his normal time but considering there was a huge altitude change, I was pretty proud of him.
I do have to share one funny story. The run had these really cool running shirts. Marcus didn't like them. He didn't want to wear it for the race, or afterwards for that matter. He normally doesn't wear the race shirt so no big deal right? Unfortunately, most people wore their shirt. It was red and dark blue and Marcus was wearing a light grey shirt and a red sweat band. He really stuck out. He said while he was running that he heard someone yell out, "Hey Napoleon, where is Pedro?" I was dying laughing but Marcus didn't think it was very funny.
The parade was fun. Afterwards I was able to see an old friend for a minute and then we had a BBQ with the Wilcox family (family friends from when I was in elementary school). It was low key and perfect. It was great to visit with them and laugh about old times. I hadn't see some of them in 10-15 years so really great to visit.
We stayed up late watching fireworks on the street. Another night where we were all beat.

I can't stop laughing. He really did stick out. This would not be so funny if we all hadn't at some point in our lives experienced "sticking out" somewhere. I agree I love the "pre-parade"
Just catching up on your blog - your girls are so grown-up and pretty. Would've been fun to bump into Napoleon -- I ran the 10k.
