These are the only two pictures that I have of our pumpkin carving. I was sad. This year was the best pumpkin carving year ever! I finally figured out that carving in the evening is a bad idea for our family. We woke up Saturday morning and after breakfast, cleaned out the pumpkins and sorted the seeds. Then we stopped. Everyone was happy, helpful, and in a good mood. It was amazing.
During Will's afternoon nap, we carved the faces in the kids pumpkins. Again, it was a great time. No stress. No tired kids. No tired and worn out parents. Even Will was excited to wake up to a pumpkin with a face carved in. Marcus and I agreed that we will be making this a tradition.
The other awesome thing is that we grew our own pumpkins this year. Our plant just happened to produce 5 pumpkins. The kids were thrilled. I was worried that they would miss our annual trip to the pumpkin patch but they didn't. They felt special that we were able to do this on our own. Even Will was over-the-top excited about his little baby pumpkin and wouldn't put it down. It was a reminder to me that many of the best memories will be our efforts at home, not our money spent entertaining our family. I only wish I had a picture of the finished products. They turned out adorable!
