It finally happened...

It has been forever since I have posted on our blog and I do have several pictures and events to post but Marcus has the SD card today so I will just share a story from today...

For many months I have heard moms talking about the day when their child was throwing a tantrum in a very inconvenient place and they have had to pack it all up and leave immediately to teach their child it is not okay to act that way. I even remember my mom telling me of leaving a full grocery cart in the store to take us kids home because we would not listen and obey (I still cannot imagine doing this because filling a cart is so much work with two kids!!).

Lately, Reagan has started to really test boundaries. I have had little inclings that this day was arriving for us and today was that day. We were headed to the library for story time with Reagan's friend Mia. After refusing to wear shoes or a coat to the library, deciding not to get out of the car and then screaming when I pulled her out, running away instead of holding hands to cross the street, and then running up the stairs to the adult section of the library not just once but twice; Reagan had reached the end. No more happy voices trying to reason with my two-year old, no more bribing or begging, no more patiently waiting. I just reached the end. I picked her up kicking and screaming and carried her and the car seat carrying a hungry Ainsley out of the library and back to the car. I tried to ignore the stares of everyone we passed, including the mailman at his truck parked behind our car who had witnessed everything from start to finish, and quickly deposited my children back into our car. I don't think it helped that Reagan looked beat up from a fall on the asphalt yesterday. Her lip is pretty scratched up and very swollen.

Reagan cried the entire way home and tried to convince me that she was ready to listen and obey. I assured her we could try again.... tomorrow.

I had a similar situation in Target. Lauren was stomping and crying and I knew people were looking at me. I was just hoping that they were thinking, "Wow, I've been there before. Good luck, Mom."

That's what I always think.

I just left a comment, but it disappeared. I feel for you. I had a similar experience with Lauren at Target. I received lots of stares, I was just hoping people were thinking, "I know how that is. Good luck, Mom."

Oh, Brittanie, I understand COMPLETELY what you're going through.(What is it with kids and libraries?? That's where Aiden has thrown some of his biggest fits.) No fun. Hang in there. You're a good mom.

Good for you Britt! That's the way the learn. (The only way I know that is from teaching.) I think you did the right thing! I'm glad to finally get a post. I've been checking EVERY DAY!

I still don't know how you do it with 2! I have a hard enough time keeping Bryce under control, but I guess that we will find out soon enough. I think you for sure did the right thing.

That sounds like a great age to look forward to.

I just wanted to let you know I tried your meatloaf recipe from the ward cookbook and it was fantastic!

Thank goodness I'm not the only mom that deals with these things. Wait until you have a 2 year old AND a 4 year old....
